Experiment

An experiment can contain different section or tabs each with various content types under them.This can include the theory, procedure, simulation, quiz, reference and so on.Each experiment is explained through these sections or tabs.The entire list of all experiments that are developed online can be found under the respective labs of a broad area.

There are three types of experiments mainly:

  1. Virtually simulated experiments that can be performed through simulations.
  2. Remote experiments that can be performed through remote triggered devices.
  3. Animated experiments that shows the animated version of the experiment.

An experiment can be accessed either by clicking on the link “Experiment”, a branch of the “Content Manager” or by selecting the desired experiment from the drop-down menu after selecting the corresponding broad area and lab.

 

 

Add a New Experiment

A registered faculty or the admin can add newly developed experiments online.To add a new experiment the user needs to click on the link "Add New Experiment” that is shown below the list of the experiments.

A small window appears where the user can add the name, description and the type of the experiment such as Simulator, Animation, Remote trigger etc. Once the required information is entered, click on the "Add New" button to confirm the addition. The user is then redirected to “Edit Experiment Details”, to continue editing the added experiment.

There are seven tabs (theory, procedure, simulation, animation, assignment, feedback, and reference) generated by default when a new experiment is created.These default tabs can be managed in the “Edit Experiment Details” page.

 

Edit the Experiment Name and Description

To edit the experiment name or its description, the user can click on the "Edit" icon shown against each experiment. A text box with the earlier information appears where the editing can be done. After having made the desired changes, the user can click on the "Save” button to save the changes.The description given is used as snippets in the search results.

 

Delete an Experiment

To delete a particular experiment, the user can click delete icon shown against the particular experiment.A pop-up window appears asking to confirm the delete operation, the user can continue by clicking the “OK" button.Trying to access a deleted experiment generates a, ‘Http:404 Page Not found’ error.

Change the Display Order of Experiments

At any time,the display order of the experiments can be changed by just dragging it up or down the list.

 


 

Hide an Experiment

A privileged user can hide a particular experiment from the main view by clicking on the eye icon shown in the column next to the selected lab. The function will not display the selected experiment on the site, but it can still be viewed /edited in the dashboard by the admin or a user with privileges. To show that the experiment is hidden, the icon of a closed eye will appear near the hidden experiment. So long as the page is kept hidden it will not be indexed by the search engines, but users can access the experiment using the direct link.
