Instructor content

The animation is self-illustrative. Instructors may choose to use the interactive version in class before detailing the protocol techniques of typical laboratory voltage clamp.  Instructor may set G_Na and G_K separately to zero and see the effects of ionic channel currents.

Student Assignment

Click on the simulator window to load the animation. Participate in a full animated walk-through to complete the feel of a real neurophysiology lab.

Click on the simulator and try the following:

  1. Set G_NA=0 which means you put voltage activated sodium currents to zero. This is similar to the application of TTX in the cell. Do a voltage clamp simulation. Note the ionic currents in the graph and observe the changes between a normal cell(with G_NA set to default) and a cell with TTX.
