User Instructions:

The simulator consists of five regions, Input control menu, Field data table, Legend window, Simulation control buttons and Result display window.

Input control menu:

Using this menu controls the user can change the Number of age class and Growth of population (t) in years included in the study.

Field data table:

Field data table will setup according to the input from Input control menu. User can enter the values into the table according to the each variable corresponds to age classes.

Age class denoted by x , simulator will automatically enter the values to this field.

Number of individuals in each age group (x) denoted by nx. User has to enter the values according to the data for the study.

Fraction of individuals that survives from age class x to x+1, denoted by sx. User has to enter the values according to the data for the study.

Average female offerings per female of a given age in population, denoted by mx. User has to enter the values according to the data for the study.

Fecundity, denoted by fx. Simulator will calculated these values according to the formula (see, theory).User don’t have any control on these values

In this window all the variables and legends are explained.

According to the selection of button by the user the corresponding result will display in the result window.

  •  Legend window:

  •   Simulation control buttons:

  •  Result display window:

Shows Leslie matrix, which was constructed from for the given data. And the calculated total number of individuals and Finite rate of change.

Shows the Life table for the given data.

Shows the Survivorship Curve for the given data.

The table showing Number of individuals in each age class in each year. And Graph showing the size of the population vs. time.

  • Leslie Matrix tab: or Button
  •  Life Table tab: or Button
  • Survivorship Curve tab or Button
  •  (The number of individuals in each age class in each year) tab or Button

Step by step explanation:

Step 1: Open the simulator and set the Input control menu, Number of Age classes x =4, years (t) = 9.

Step 2: Enter the values for nx, sx, mx into the Field data table,

Step 3: Click Create Leslie Matrix Button, Leslie matrix is displayed in result tab.

Step 4: Click Show Life table Button, Life table is displayed in result tab.

Step 5 : Click Leslie Matrix from Life table Button, Life table is displayed in result tab.

Step 6: Click Application of Leslie matrix Button, it displays a table representing the number of individuals in each age class in each year and population size vs. time graph in result tab.

Step 7: Click Proportion of individuals Button, it displays a table representing the proportion of individuals in each age class in each year and the graphs for proportion of individual’s vs age classes for each year’s separately in result tab.
