A National Conference and Virtual Labs workshop for engineering and science colleges was conducted by Amrita University on May 6th, 2016. The nodal center meet was aimed at improving education quality by providing free access to computer-based laboratories that enhance practical engineering and science skills in students. The one-day event was attended by more than 100 professors representing 60 institutes from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

Several nodal centres presented implementation plan of virtual lab deployment at their institutes. The program included hands-on training, demonstration of virtual lab experiments and access to collaborative platform to monitor student performance. Topics to use virtual labs in biotechnology, engineering and sciences were discussed by the professors in improving education quality. 66 institutes are already nodal centers with Amrita University and 39 were recognized for their student usages of virtual labs at the conference. Dr. Shyam Diwakar, Co-principal investigator, Virtual Labs gave away the awards and certificate of recognition to the nodal coordinators of the respective institutes. List of Institutes
BMS College Bengaluru, Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottayam, Mepco Schlenk Engineering college,Virudhunagar, Er. Perumal Manimekalai College of Engineering and Hosur, Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology Bengaluru were the star performers having maximum usages in the last year and were awarded at the event.
The key advantage of using Virtual labs is that it allows students and faculty to access laboratory experiments anytime from desktops, laptops or even mobile phones. Dr. Krishnashree Achuthan, Principal Investigator of the Virtual Labs said workshops such as these have had a phenomenal impact on many institutes laboratory experiments to their respective students resulting in better learning outcomes.
