Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications (AmritaWNA), Amrita University conducted a three day National level Workshop, "Large Scale Wireless Sensor Networks - Protocols, Programming and Remote Triggering (LS-WSN 2015)" from 29 June to 1 July 2015. The workshop was inaugurated by Br. Nirvanamrita Chaithanyaji from Mata Amritandamayi Math. Dr. Jyothi, Principal, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus, Dr. K Sankaran, former Principal, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus and Prof. Unnikrishna Menon from AmritaWNA presided over the function.
Dr. Dilip Krishnaswamy, senior research Scientist from IBM Bangalore and Dr. Kalyan Sasidhar, Assistant Professor, AmritaWNA delivered technical sessions on various advanced topics related to Wireless Sensor Networks. The Center was successful in developing India's first remote triggered labs in the area of Computer Science which was the end result of a National Mission Project funded by Ministry of Human Resource & Development (MHRD). This lab offers a web-based e-learning platform for the registered users to perform remote experimentation and programming in a virtual manner absolutely for free. This workshop aims to impart the knowledge on fundamentals of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) through our remote triggered lab experiments as well as hands-on-experiments that were provided during the workshop. Researchers who were involved in developing real-time wireless sensor systems handled the hands-on-sessions in the workshop.
Around 50 participants including students, faculties and researchers from various prestigious universities in India such as Anna University, Vel Tech University, Andhra University, Kerala University etc attended the workshop. Though the attendees were from multidisciplinary areas such as Computer science, Electronics and Electrical Engineering backgrounds, the workshop opened up a common platform for them to explore the various concepts of WSN and remote triggering.
The workshop concluded with a presentation on the nodal center program of Amrita Virtual Labs which provides a platform for everyone to contribute towards the future development of Virtual Labs and experiments. The concluding ceremony was presided over by Dr. Jyothi, Principal, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus, Dr. K Sankaran, former Principal, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus, Prof. Unnikrishna Menon and Dr. Kalyan Sasidhar from AmritaWNA who distributed the certificates to the participants.
